This continuous 29-minute 5-movement piece is the longest from Octahedra so far, and one of the most complex, with more acoustic instruments than ever. It ranges from slow chord progressions of very different flavours, to a hectic sequencer climax.

The chord dynamics for the slow sections were generated using the harmonograph images on the cover. The classical opening and sequencer-driven ending show the opposite extremes of what you can do with the same evolving chord sequence...

The best of the rest of Octahedra, 1998-2008. Includes the EPs Zoom and Nebulon, the music from the Dark Matter DVD video and 19 minutes of previously unreleased weirdness. Features custom-built sequencing software you won't hear anywhere else in the multiverse... and a washing machine.

Postscript: it turns out that Compilation Zero is an anagram of Zoom Replication.

During the 'ascending' and 'descending' sections the music shifts gradually into a different key.

The two slow tracks are exact opposites from the composer's point of view. Mountains has several synths playing the same music at different speeds, creating unexpected chords as they go in and out of phase with each other. In Glacier the chords are planned out from the beginning but the rest is improvised...

This EP was inspired by the four largest moons of Jupiter, discovered independently by Galileo and Simon Marius in 1610, and named by Marius. With the photographs from the Voyager and Galileo spacecraft, we now have a good idea of what it would actually be like to visit them...

All four tracks use exactly the same chord sequence - the idea being to evoke the differences between these places purely by musical style. The length of each track is fixed by the size of its moon.

The stones on the cover were found on the beach at Crosby, Merseyside, UK,...
